On the first day, we will enjoy a wonderful boat trip from Marseille to explore the famous Calanques from the sea.
This is one of the best ways to experience the area: turquoise water, white limestone cliffs, hidden coves and dramatic
Mediterranean scenery all around us.
It will be the perfect introduction to Marseille and the Calanques before we hike through this incredible landscape the next day.

Detailed Itinerary
Day 1 Arrival, Old Port & Boat Trip Through the Calanques
We will begin our Marseille adventure by exploring the famous Old Port of Marseille, the historic heart
of the city. This lively harbour is surrounded by cafés, seafood restaurants, boats, local life and beautiful views towards
Fort Saint-Jean.
- Old Port of Marseille: A classic introduction to the city, full of history, atmosphere and Mediterranean charm.
- Fort Saint-Jean and harbour views: A perfect place for photos and to understand Marseille’s maritime character.
- Boat trip through the Calanques: The main highlight of the day. We will sail along the coast and admire the dramatic limestone cliffs, hidden coves and crystal-clear waters of the Calanques.
This first day is about enjoying Marseille from both land and sea, giving us a relaxed but spectacular start to the weekend.
Day 2 Guided Hike in the Calanques of Cassis
Day two is our main hiking day. We will head towards Cassis and enjoy a guided hike in the stunning
Calanques National Park, one of the most iconic natural areas in France.
- Distance: Approximately 13.5 km
- Elevation gain: Approximately 544 m
- Route type: Circular route
- Experience: Coastal trails, panoramic viewpoints, limestone cliffs and incredible Mediterranean scenery.
- Possible swim stop: If weather and timing allow, there may be a chance to swim at a beach along the way.
This hike is the perfect way to experience the Calanques from inside the national park, after having seen them from the boat
the previous day.
Day 3 Marseille Culture, Views & Free Time
On our final day, we will enjoy more of Marseille’s cultural side, with time to visit some of the city’s most iconic places.
- Basilique Notre-Dame de la Garde: Known locally as “La Bonne Mère”, this is one of the best viewpoints in Marseille.
- Cathédrale La Major: A striking cathedral close to the waterfront and the old harbour area.
- Palais Longchamp: A beautiful monument with gardens, architecture and museum buildings.
- Free time: Enjoy Marseille at your own pace, go shopping, relax in a café or have a final Mediterranean meal before travelling home.
About Cassis and the Calanques
Cassis is a charming Mediterranean fishing port known for its colourful harbour, relaxed atmosphere, narrow streets and
beautiful coastal setting. It is also one of the gateways to the famous Calanques, a spectacular landscape of white limestone
cliffs, deep blue water and hidden coves.
The Calanques are one of the most impressive natural areas in the south of France. Seeing them by boat and then hiking through
them gives us two very different and unforgettable perspectives.
