Winter hike to Leith Hill and the magical Rhododendron Wood! 16.7 km of Surrey Hills views, forest trails and great vibes — and we’ll finish with a local stop for a warm drink / pub to celebrate. Intermediate level, steady pace, picnic break, and plenty of photo moments.

If you are buying your own train ticket, please make sure your tickets are valid for both station. You can buy a day return to Gomshal Any Route Permitted.

We'll meet near Boots (no 27) and set off at 8:30 am. We expect to return to London around 6:30 pm.

It will be a day full of great company, exciting challenges, and the natural beauty we love. Plus, we're covered by our club's insurance and are registered with the British Mountaineering Council (BMC), so you're in safe hands.

Your Saturday walk — everything you need to know

A full day in the countryside: fresh air, good company and plenty of photo stops. We keep a steady, sociable pace with a picnic break halfway, so bring something you'll enjoy eating outdoors. Most people join on their own — you'll be very welcome.

What to bring

Comfortable clothing and walking footwear — hiking boots if you have them.

Waterproof jacket and trousers recommended; waterproof shoes if possible.

Water — at least 1 litre, ideally 2.

A packed lunch for the picnic stop.

Some money for the pub afterwards (optional, but recommended!).

Train tickets: we buy a group ticket and travel together there and back from the same station. If you plan to return separately or get off elsewhere, please buy your own ticket in advance.

Safety on our walks

Our leaders are first-aid trained and carry a first aid kit. We are a non-profit organisation registered with the BMC (British Mountaineering Council) — see our BMC registration.

Bringing your dog

Dogs are welcome, but must be kept on a lead at all times. Read more in our Dog Policy.

Cancellations & changes

You can get a refund if you cancel at least 72 hours before the event (minus a £5 admin fee). Places are non-transferable. Full details in our Cancellation and Changes Policy.
