Glynde to Seaford: South Downs Ridge, Alfriston & Seven Sisters Views

One of the best long day walks in the South Downs: a scenic ridge section, a village lunch stop in Alfriston, then the Cuckmere Valley and a dramatic coastal finish into Seaford with classic Seven Sisters views.

  • Walking time: ~7 hours (full day ~12 hours incl. trains, breaks and lunch)
  • Type: Linear (start Glynde, finish Seaford)
  • Difficulty: Challenging (long day)

Meeting point & transport

We will meet near Boots (No. 27) and set off at 8:30 am. We expect to return to London around 8:00 pm.

Important safety note
On the coastal section, keep well away from the cliff edge at all times (chalk cliffs can be unstable). The leader will manage spacing and regroup points.

We’re heading out for a full day in the countryside: fresh air, good vibes, and plenty of photo moments. We’ll keep a steady pace with a picnic stop halfway, so bring something you’ll enjoy eating outdoors.

Useful info

  • Group train tickets: we travel together there and back from the same station.
  • Going solo: if you plan to return separately or get off elsewhere, please buy your own individual ticket in advance.

Prices

What to bring

  • Comfortable clothing and walking footwear; hiking boots if you have them.
  • Waterproof jacket and trousers recommended; waterproof shoes if possible.
  • Water (at least 1 litre, ideally 2).
  • Lunch for the picnic stop.
  • Some money for the pub afterwards (optional).

Pets

Dogs are welcome, on lead at all times.
