Essential checklist for your climb to the top of North Africa

1. Backpack & Storage
Pack
35–45 L trekking backpack – fits your day kit for summit push.
Waterproof Cover
Keep your gear dry from rain and dust.

2. Clothing (Layer Up!)
Base Layer
Merino or synthetic tee & bottoms – wicks sweat, stays fresh.
Mid Layer
Light fleece or thin thermal jacket for those chilly breaks.
Shell
Waterproof, breathable jacket & pants – Gore-Tex or equivalent.
High-Altitude Jacket
Ultralight down jacket – for 4 167 m dawn summit.
Sun Guard
Light long-sleeve shirt (UPF 30+) to block harsh sun.

3. Footwear
Mountain Boots
Sturdy, waterproof boots – stiff sole, comfy for long days.
Socks
2–3 pairs: hiking, spare, and a thicker pair for summit.
Camp Shoes
Light sandals or trainers for chilling at the refuge and in Marrakech.

4. Sleeping
Sleeping Bag
Comfort to –5 °C – the refuge can get cold at night.

5. Hydration & Snacks
Water
2 L hydration pack or bottles – stay topped up.
Purify
Filter or purification tablets, just in case.
Energy Boost
Bars, nuts, gels – keep those legs moving.

6. Essentials
Sunglasses
UV-blocking, wrap-around shades – glare buster.
Sun Care
SPF 50+ sunscreen & lip balm – reapply often.
Headlamp
200 lumens + spare batteries – summit starts pre-dawn.
Warm Headwear & Gloves
Wool beanie or buff, plus thin liners and waterproof mitts.
Quick-Dry Towel
Handy at the refuge and back in Marrakech.
Insurance
Mountain rescue + helicopter evacuation cover – non-negotiable!
