A greener London

The walk begins beside Wimbledon Park before moving towards the commons, where woodland, heath and ponds create an unexpectedly wild transition from city streets. The landscape gradually opens as we continue north-west towards Richmond Park.

Richmond Park changes the scale of the day. Ancient woodland, broad grassland and long views create the feeling of open countryside while remaining inside London. Deer and other wildlife are part of this landscape, so we will walk responsibly and give animals plenty of space.

From parkland to the Thames

The final part of the route leaves the wide spaces of Richmond Park and heads towards the river. The character changes again as the woodland and grassland give way to Richmond’s historic riverside and the finish at Richmond Bridge.

It is a varied London hike rather than a hard mountain day: the interest comes from the constant changes in landscape, from lake and woodland to open parkland, wildlife habitat and the Thames.
