Potes – A Mountain Village That’s Waiting for Us, Spartans
Hey Spartans, remember this name: Potes. Because very soon, we’ll be walking its cobbled streets, eating slow-cooked mountain stew, and raising a glass of wine after a long hike through the Picos de Europa.
Where is Potes?
Potes is in northern Spain, in the region of Cantabria – tucked right between the mountains like a hidden medieval gem. Technically it’s part of the Liébana valley, and it’s one of the main gateways to the Picos de Europa. Imagine stone bridges, wooden balconies, a river running through the town, and a vibe that feels like you’re stepping into a storybook.
Why is it so cool?
Because it has everything we Spartans love: nature, history, and amazing food. It’s not a big town, but it’s packed with charm. Potes smells like wood fire, tastes like mountain stew, and sounds like village festivals with music and laughter.
It’s also super close to Fuente Dé and the famous cable car hike we’ll be doing – so it’s the perfect base for our adventure.
What we’ll do there
After our epic hikes, we’ll return to Potes to chill, explore the old town, and eat like kings. Think rustic taverns, chickpea and meat stew (aka cocido lebaniego), maybe a local wine or two, and the warm welcome of the villagers.
And if we’re lucky, we’ll be there for the Fiestas de la Cruz – traditional costumes, live music, dancing in the square, and that magic small-town energy you can’t describe… you just have to feel it.
Ready to explore?
This isn’t just a hiking trip. It’s a full-on Spartan getaway with mountains, culture, good food and great company. Dates are coming soon – so start packing that bag (and your appetite).
