Poland has mountains, wild forests, postcard lakes and even dunes that look like a small desert. Here are 5 beautiful hiking routes, explained in a simple and friendly way.

1. MORSKIE OKO – THE CLASSIC TATRA MOUNTAINS ROUTE

Area: Tatra Mountains, near Zakopane.

Difficulty: Easy to moderate.

How to get there by public transport: Train or bus to Zakopane, then a local bus to Palenica Białczańska.

Terrain: Paved road, forest and gentle mountain scenery.

History: Morskie Oko is one of the most famous places in Poland. People have travelled here for generations to see this beautiful lake surrounded by dramatic mountains.

Curiosities: It is probably the most famous lake in Poland. In high season it can get very busy, so starting early is a great idea.

Route description: This is a great route if you want something beautiful but not too technical. You walk through the forest on a comfortable path until the lake suddenly appears in front of you. The view is absolutely stunning.

2. BIAŁOWIEŻA NATIONAL PARK – THE WILDEST FOREST

Area: Eastern Poland, near the border with Belarus.

Difficulty: Easy.

How to get there by public transport: Train to Hajnówka, then a local bus to Białowieża.

Terrain: Flat forest paths, natural trails and easy walking routes.

History: Białowieża Forest is one of the last primeval forests in Europe. For centuries, it was a royal hunting area.

Curiosities: This is one of the best places in Europe to see European bison. The forest feels ancient, wild and very special.

3. BIESZCZADY MOUNTAINS – WILD NATURE WITHOUT THE CROWDS

Area: South-eastern Poland.

Difficulty: Moderate.

How to get there by public transport: Train to Sanok or Ustrzyki Dolne, then a local bus towards the mountain villages.

Terrain: Mountain trails, rolling hills, meadows and forest sections.

History: Bieszczady has a deep and complex history, with wars, abandoned villages and population changes. Today, it is one of the quietest and most authentic mountain areas in Poland.

Curiosities: It is much less crowded than other Polish mountain regions. A great place for big views, fresh air and proper disconnection.

4. SŁOWIŃSKI DUNES – THE POLISH DESERT BY THE SEA

Area: Baltic coast, near Łeba.

Difficulty: Easy.

How to get there by public transport: Train to Łeba, then access the park by local transport, bike or walking depending on your route.

Terrain: Sand, dunes, coastal forest and beach.

History: The Słowiński dunes are famous because they move with the wind. Over time, they slowly change the landscape and cover parts of the forest.

Curiosities: It feels like a small desert, but you are actually next to the Baltic Sea. It is a very unusual and photogenic place.
