Northolt Hill – A Little Green Escape in West London
If you’re looking for a quick break from the city without going too far, Northolt Hill (Northala Fields) is a really cool spot. Those four big green cones you see from the A40? That’s the place. It’s perfect for a short walk, a bit of exercise and some great views over London.
Where is it and what’s the vibe?
Northolt Hill sits right next to the A40 in the Northolt area, in west London. From the top you get surprising panoramic views – you can see parts of the London skyline, Wembley and a lot of the surrounding neighbourhoods.
The whole park has a relaxed, local feel. You’ll see families, joggers, dog walkers and people just hanging out on the grass enjoying the day. It’s the kind of place where you can switch off for a couple of hours without leaving London.
Why are these hills here?
The hills are not natural – they were actually built using the rubble from the old Wembley Stadium. Instead of throwing everything away, they turned it into this modern green park. It’s a nice mix of recycling, art and nature all in one place.
What can you do at Northolt Hill?
There’s more to do than just walk up and down the hill:
- Walk or run on the paths around the hills – flat enough for an easy stroll.
- Climb the main hill using the spiral path for a gentle climb or go straight up if you want a bit of a workout.
- Enjoy the lakes and watch the birds around the water.
- Bring kids, friends or your dog and make it a chilled-out day outdoors.
Easy circular walk idea
Here’s a simple loop you can do:
- Start near the main entrance and walk around the lakes on the flat paths.
- Then follow the spiral path up the highest hill and enjoy the view at the top.
- Come down the other side and cross the grassy areas and wildflower patches.
- Finish by walking around the base of the hills back to where you started.
In total it’s roughly 3–4 km, very relaxed, and you can do it in about an hour, more if you stop for photos or a little picnic.
Practical tips
- Difficulty: Very easy, just a short climb to the top of the hill.
- Footwear: Trainers are fine, but the grass can be muddy after rain.
- Best time: Late afternoon for sunset views over London is amazing.
- Who is it for? Beginners, families, casual walkers and anyone who wants a quick nature fix.
