Hiking and Yoga: The Perfect Combination for Body, Mind and Soul

At Hiking in London Club, we don’t just hike. We love to connect with nature, with each other, and most importantly, with ourselves. That’s why some of our most unique hikes include a special pause: an outdoor yoga session. It might sound like an unusual pairing at first... but once you try them together, the effect is surprisingly powerful.

What do hiking and yoga have in common?

Both activities encourage you to be present. Hiking connects you to your surroundings: the sounds of the forest, the crunch of leaves, the breeze on your face. Yoga connects you inwardly: with your breath, your body, your state of mind. Practicing both offers a full wellness experience—balancing you inside and out.

Benefits of combining hiking and yoga

  • Increases flexibility and relieves muscle tension after walking.
  • Improves body awareness, helping you move with control and avoid injury.
  • Reduces stress and anxiety through movement and conscious breathing.
  • Creates a moment of mental reset in the middle of the adventure.

A brief history of yoga

Yoga is an ancient practice that began in India over 5,000 years ago. Originally, it wasn’t just about physical movement—it was a spiritual path aimed at achieving union between body, mind and soul. The poses we know today are just one part of a broader system that includes breathing techniques, meditation, and even ethical living.

Legend has it that in the Himalayan mountains, yogis would practice in silence for years. Some stories say these sages developed such inner awareness that they could communicate without speaking. Yoga was seen as a key to unlocking the universal truth.

Curious facts and mysteries about yoga

  • Many poses were inspired by animal movements, like the cobra, crow, or dog.
  • Ancient texts like the Yoga Sutras describe states of consciousness reached through deep practice.
  • Some yogis and hikers alike report experiencing mental clarity and vision in nature, especially in the mountains.

Why do we include yoga in our club hikes?

Because we believe well-being is more than physical fitness. A good hike makes you sweat, strengthens your legs and clears your head. But when you lie down on your mat, close your eyes, and hear the wind rustling through the trees—something shifts inside.

Practicing yoga outdoors with fellow hikers creates a unique bond. We are Spartans, yes—but we also know how to pause, breathe, and enjoy the journey.

Will you join our next hike with yoga included?
Just bring your boots, a bottle of water, and an open mind. The mountain will take care of the rest.
