Why Do the Alta Via 1?
This route offers around 120 km of pure natural and cultural beauty. Imagine crossing meadows, forests, glaciers, and peaks with breathtaking panoramic views. The good news is you don't have to worry about planning every detail because the club takes care of everything: guides, accommodation, local transportation, and of course, breakfast to start your day with energy!
Best Time to Go
The ideal time to hike the Alta Via 1 is in July, August, or early September. During these months, the weather is perfect, and the snow has melted from the trails. However, book early! It's a popular route, and the refuges fill up quickly.
How to Get There from London
From London, we handle the trip coordination so all you need to bring is your adventurous spirit. Here's a typical itinerary:
- Flight London-Venice: We start with a flight to Venice.
- Local Transport: From Venice, we take a bus or train to Cortina d'Ampezzo, where our Dolomites adventure begins.

Stage 1: Lago di Braies - Refugio Sennes
Description: We start at the famous Lago di Braies, a postcard-perfect spot. From here, the trail ascends to Refugio Sennes, offering incredible views.

Permits
Good news! You don't need any special permits for the Alta Via 1. However, it's important to book your spots in the refuges in advance and bring your ID documents.
Practical Tips
- Proper Clothing: Temperatures can vary, so bring layered clothing and some warm gear.
- Trekking Poles: They are really helpful, especially on the descents.
- Hiking Boots: You need shoes with good grip as the paths can sometimes be slippery.
- Water and Snacks: Refuges are well-equipped, but it's always good to have some extras on hand.
- Map and Compass: Although the trails are well-marked, having a map is useful.
- Sun Protection: The sun can be strong at high altitudes, so don't forget sunscreen and sunglasses.
