From Dover to the White Cliffs: An Unforgettable Adventure!!

Hey guys! Let me tell you all about the awesome day we had hiking from Dover to the White Cliffs. It was honestly one of the most stunning walks I’ve ever done—imagine standing on these towering white cliffs, looking out over the English Channel, watching ferries drift in and out of Dover Harbour, and—on a clear day—catching a glimpse of the French coast way off in the distance. Totally epic!

We kicked things off early at London King’s Cross, all meeting up by that cool “Bird Cage” sculpture. The vibe was super friendly right from the start—everyone was buzzing about getting out into nature for the day. Once we got to Dover Priory Station, we hit the trail and immediately got treated to those classic Dover Castle views, plus the port looking really busy that morning.

The hike itself is around 17.7 km (about 11 miles), and we tackled two decent ascents along the way. Don’t let that scare you though—it’s pretty manageable if you’ve got decent fitness. And wow, every time we got to a higher vantage point, it felt like the cliffs stretched on forever.

We took a picnic break about halfway through—everyone had brought all sorts of snacks, from sandwiches and fruit to cookies and chocolate. I swear, food tastes better when you’re surrounded by epic scenery! Then we carried on along the coast, passing loads of great photo ops. A bunch of us kept stopping to snap pictures, but we made sure to keep our group in sight, so nobody got left behind.

Our guides were fantastic—super chill, but also really knowledgeable about the route and ready to handle any hiccups. You can tell they love what they do. It’s also cool that we’re part of a non-profit club registered with the BMC, so it really feels like we’re all in it for the love of hiking and the outdoors.

Once we wrapped up the walk, we ended up near Deal Station, where we had an hour or two to chill before catching the train back. A few of us headed to a nearby pub, grabbed some drinks, and just relaxed—perfect way to finish off the day, especially after a decent day’s hike.

Honestly, if you’re even remotely thinking about doing this route, go for it. The White Cliffs are iconic for a reason, and being out there in the fresh sea air with friends (or soon-to-be friends) is just unbeatable. If you’re into hiking, adventure, or just want a great day out, Dover to the White Cliffs is a total must-do. I can’t wait to go back!
