Cotswold Way

Broadway to Stanton — The Most Beautiful Stretch of the Cotswold Way

Rolling hills, ancient pathways, golden villages and one of the most timeless walks in England.

Between dry-stone walls, sheep-filled meadows and quiet woodland trails, the walk from Broadway to Stanton feels less like a hike and more like stepping into an old English painting.

This section of the legendary Cotswold Way captures everything that makes the English countryside magical: peaceful villages, rolling green landscapes, historic architecture and a sense of calm that is becoming increasingly rare.

Description

The route begins in the elegant village of Broadway, often called the “Jewel of the Cotswolds”. From there, the trail climbs gently towards the famous Broadway Tower, one of the highest points in the region.

After the initial ascent, the path softens into peaceful countryside trails, crossing open fields, ancient woodland and quiet hills before descending into the beautiful village of Stanton.

History

The Cotswold Way follows ancient routes used for centuries by traders, pilgrims and shepherds. During medieval times, the wool trade brought enormous wealth to the region, shaping the villages and churches that still define the landscape today.

Broadway itself became an important coaching stop between London and Worcester, while Stanton preserved a quieter and more traditional rural identity.

Curiosities

The honey-coloured stone used throughout the Cotswolds changes dramatically with the light. At sunrise and sunset, entire villages glow in deep golden tones.

On clear days, visitors at Broadway Tower can reportedly see up to sixteen English counties from the viewpoint.
